How To Choose A Handgun
The KRISS KARD: New pistol from TDI
The patent application (#20070214699) for the pistol was published in February. It somehow managed to slip under my radar! As you have probably guess by looking at the photos, the pistol makes use of a delayed bolt blowback system. The KARD's barrel recoils inline, rather than the tilting barrel system used in most conventional pistols. To provide inertia, a weight is located at the front of the gun which is actuated by the barrel. The weight, which tilts downwards during recoil, provides the same functionality as a slide on a regular pistol. The recoiling barrel pushes back the bolt. By the time the bolt and barrel separate, the pressure inside the barrel will be at safe levels. A recoil spring pulls the bolt back intro battery (stripping a round off the magazine on its return journey). So what are the advantages of this system? The primary advantage is that the recoil mechanism transfers some of the recoil energy in a downward direction (and at the front of the gun), rather than backwards like a slide does in a regular pistol. This should help keep the gun on target. Another advantage is that the because there is no slide, optics can be easily mounted on the top of the gun. I would be very surprised if a machine pistol version of this gun is not made. The design seems to be crying out for full auto trigger! |
Toys R Us enters gun accessory market!!!
If I had not seen the webpage with my own eyes, I would have not believed it was real! UPDATE: The page has been taken offline! UPDATE2: But a .243 bore sighter is still available! UPDATE3: Scroll down for an explanation.
The product reviews are priceless ...
this product is great!! my 8 year old son's precision 300 win mag rifle is already sighted in but we found another use for this. when we can't make it to the range for live fire, he can lay prone on our second story balcony and practice holds and dry firing on the neighbors and people walking down the street! i can observe where his point of aim is through a spotting scope while laying next to him. this made a great training aid! THANK YOU TOYS R US for carrying such a great product!
...
Works perfectly. Other kids play with balloons. Mine are ready when the balloon goes up.
Thanks TRU.
...
Worked great for granny and her 300. but she has more fun making the neighbors cat and dog run in circles. the cat will actually climb the wall after the little red dot.
...
When we tried these out on pre-schoolers rifles in 300 Winchester, they worked remarkably well. However, caution should be exercised when using lasers around small children as they tend to leave the switch in the "on" position and thereby shorten battery life. Our school is now ordering more so that each child will independently have sighting capability for any new weapons he or she later procures. Thank you Toys-R-Us for stocking this hard to find item!

Traveling with Special Items
Firearms & Ammunition
You may only transport firearms, ammunition and firearm parts in your checked baggage. Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts are prohibited from carry-on baggage.
There are certain limited exceptions for law enforcement officers who may fly armed by meeting the requirements of Title 49 CFR § 1544.219. Law enforcement officersshould read our policies on traveling with guns.
The key regulatory requirements to transporting firearms, firearm parts or ammunition in checked baggage are:
- You must declare all firearms to the airline during the ticket counter check-in process.
- The firearm must be unloaded.
- The firearm must be in a hard-sided container.
- The container must be locked. A locked container is defined as one that completely secures the firearm from access by anyone other than you. Cases that can be pulled open with little effort do not meet this criterion. The pictures provided here illustrate the difference between a properly packaged and an improperly packaged firearm.
- We recommend that you provide the key or combination to the security officer if he or she needs to open the container. You should remain present during screening to take the key back after the container is cleared. If you are not present and the security officer must open the container, we or the airline will make a reasonable attempt to contact you. If we can't contact you, the container will not be placed on the plane. Federal regulations prohibit unlocked gun cases (or cases with broken locks) on aircraft.
- You must securely pack any ammunition in fiber (such as cardboard), wood or metal boxes or other packaging that is specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
- You can't use firearm magazines/clips for packing ammunition unless they completely and securely enclose the ammunition (e.g., by securely covering the exposed portions of the magazine or by securely placing the magazine in a pouch, holder, holster or lanyard).
- You may carry the ammunition in the same hard-sided case as the firearm, as long as you pack it as described above.
- You can't bring black powder or percussion caps used with black-powder type firearms in either your carry-on or checked baggage.
We and other authorities strictly enforce these regulations. Violations can result in criminal prosecution and civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation.
Airlines may have their own additional requirements on the carriage of firearms and the amount of ammunition that you may have in your checked baggage. Therefore, travelers should also contact the airline regarding its firearm and ammunition carriage policies.
Also, please note that many other countries have different laws that address transportation and possession of firearms. If you are traveling internationally, please check with the authorities at your destination about their requirements.
AMAZING STORIES ABOUT TOMBSTONE, ARIZONA TERRITORY “The town too tough to die” By Dakota Livesay
The Old West was full of wild towns. But none was like the one that started as a mining claim on September 3, 1877. And it continues to this day as a monument to the wild days of the boomtowns.
As the story goes, Ed Schieffelin, while prospecting in southeast Arizona, was told that all he would be able to find would be his tombstone. What Schieffelin found was an area that ended up producing $30 million in silver. He recorded his claim, jokingly naming it the Tombstone Mine. Buildings started springing up over night. But Tombstone was different. By the end of 1877, the heyday of the cattle towns was all but over. Texas Rangers were chasing all the bad guys out of Texas. And Pat Garrett was wrapping up things in New Mexico. So, Tombstone became the last hurrah for many a desperado. With a town of miners, claim jumpers, con artists, soiled doves, gunmen and gamblers, it wasn't surprising that there
seemed to be at least one killing a day. The Tombstone Epitaph reported these killings in a special column called "Death's Doings". Wells Spicer in an early letter said that Tombstone had two dance halls, a dozen gambling places and more than 20 saloons. But, he wrote, "Still there is hope, for I know of two Bibles in town." Three years after Schieffelin filed his claim; Tombstone had about five hundred buildings, with more than a hundred selling hard liquor, and about half of those houses of ill repute. Tombstone's reputation even became a concern of President Chester Arthur. Tombstone survived disastrous fires in 1881 and 1882. But in 1886, when water flooded the mines, the population began to shrink. But, in the spirit of a town to tough to die, Tombstone, Arizona remains today the number one place that Old
West enthusiasts want to go.
BASICS OF PERSONNEL PROTECTION
By Martin Gartenberg
(Certified Personal Home Protection Instructor)
Unfortunately, in these days and times we all must consider knowing what to do and what not to do in an emergency situation. Since most are not properly trained the following is designed to make you more aware of your surroundings and situations.
It is crucial to always know exactly what your surroundings are. If you walk out in the street you should first scan your immediate area. For instance, are there persons you do not recognize? What are they doing? If something does not look as it should, then it probably isn’t. You can’t be paranoid about everything but you should always be aware. There are four levels of awareness:
First, there is unaware. That is when you come home and do not pay attention to any of your surroundings.
Second, there is being aware of your surroundings. You know who is in the street or several houses from your own. You observe cars that do not belong or people who are not familiar.
Third, is alert when your door is unlocked or broken or if you open your door and see things scattered all over the floor.
The fourth, and most dangerous situation is alarm, when you’re in your home and actually confront an intruder. Hopefully, it will never come to this alarm situation, but at least you are aware of the four types of situations.
Following are the steps that you can take to avoid the perils of these situations:
You must always be aware of your surroundings and have a family contingency plan for these situations. For example, if you must leave your home because of an impending threat, you have to know where you should go to avoid any confrontation with an intruder. You should never enter your home if an intruder is present but meet up at your contingency destination.
You should also have a cell phone handy and immediately call 911. Once the operator gets on you must remain calm and clearly state the situation. Give your name, address and any other pertinent information. Did you see any weapons or is the intruder still in your home? If you are forced to confront an intruder, always remember to let them take anything that they want because it is not worth your life. If they are armed try to stay calm and not argue. They may be shouting, cursing and threatening so just do exactly what they say. If you know for sure that your life is in imminent danger and there is no way out, don’t be a hero.
Don’t try to grab their weapon, but at the same time, if you have the opportunity to escape then do so even if there are other family members still there. Remember, intruders want to get in and out as soon as possible, and if someone has escaped others will be informed and call 911. I know that in certain circumstances if you are threatened with bodily harm you have the legal right under the Florida Castle Doctrine to use bodily force against intruders. I never recommend that you do anything that would put your life in danger. In order to fully understand the use of firearms, you should consider taking courses and know exactly what you should do, and what you should not do.
Remember, these are only the basics of personal protection in the home and there is so much more that you can learn. Most importantly, common sense plays a major part so use your head in any of these four situations. Try to remember that you may already have the more dangerous weapon if you use it correctly... YOUR BRAIN.
Always remember. Unaware. Aware. Alert and Alarm.

The Origin Of "Handgun Leather" - Brief Article
Handgun leather-- a term John Bianchi coined, by the way-- had pretty much stagnated in the 1950s and holsters were little more than simple pouches to keep guns from falling onto the ground. Often, they didn't even do that simple chore very well.
The early companies were run by the sons and grandsons of the founders and names like Bucheimer, Clark and S.D. Myers were bandied about by cops and citizens who carried concealed. Still, the designs were often simple, almost crude by some standards, and a gun and holster-crazy young man named Bianchi thought he could do better. He felt the market was clamoring for some imaginative new products. He was right.
The old photo of John, 14, shows him wearing the first holster he ever made. He lived near a glove factory and haunted the scrap heaps for bits of leather that he turned into holsters, wallets, belts and "cowboy stuff," as he called it. He was bitten by the bug and a path through history was set in concrete.

STUN GUNS FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION
This article discusses about the features of the most advanced non-lethal self defense weapon, stun guns. Basically stun guns work electrically which can produce a high voltage of electricity enough to disable an attacker. The prong which is at the open part of the stun gun is used to pass electricity on attackers by simply touching them with it. Since it doesn''t cause any serious or permanent injuries you have nothing to worry about the persons who are attacking you. However while using stun guns you should follow the instructions on how to use these guns against your attackers properly. Some of the stun guns out there in the market will produce a 5 second energy burst on your attacker which is enough for you to get away from the attacker.
There are even some other advanced stun guns are out there which resemble a camera or cell phone inside a pouch. They will really give you an edge in that the attacker will think that you are really carrying a cell phone and not a stun gun in your hands. First thing you should do after getting a stun gun is do a practice with them to handle them properly. Because of the high voltage produced from this gun a slight percentage of self harm may take place with the improper use. So the wise thing is practice with them for a while before taking somebody out. The next thing you should consider while going out is about the charge on the stun guns. They must be fully charged before taking them outside. Accidents will happen in no time, so keep your self defense weapons with you always to maintain your distance from potential attackers.
